Staniel Cay - Thunderball

We were traveling since some days with our boat down the extraordinary beautiful Exuma Cays, stopping at deserted beached and small settlements full of friendly locals. The Exumas are far aways from the daily world, living here was with the rhythm of the tides and the wind. When approaching Staniel Cay this doesn't change, although the settlement was the biggest in the Exumas. Big means here some fifty houses along a tropical shore with palm trees sawing in the wind. The white sand was dazzling our eyes and the turquoise waters in the lagoon were brimming with fish. On the other side of lagoon was a rock undermined by water with a big cave network ready to be explored. This cave hosted some scenes of a James Bond movie and therefore it was called Thunderball. Otherwise this places has nothing to do with a Thunderball boasting only peace and tranquility. Once we dropped the anchor I jumped into the blue and explored the fantastic cave. After some snorkelling, back on the boat the sun was already low and it was time for a Bahama Mama to watch the sun setting over the islands. A typical Bahamian evening.
